Giovanni Falcone - the massacre of May 23, 2008 Able

With Axefree for making this video.
John will remember you forever!

Cocaine And Tightening Of The Chest

Today is May 23, 2008. For this country, my small town in Molise, a day like the others, twenty-four hours with no meaning at least for most of the inhabitants. For me it is not. Today is a particularly special because it marks the sixteenth anniversary of the death of Giovanni Falcone, my idol and my hero. Here everything seems strangely quiet, but a few miles from here, thousands of people gathered to pay tribute to Judge Falcone, his wife Francesca and bodyguards. How I wish I be there! In this time I would not want more! I would not be in Las Vegas, or New York or even next to the famous actors in Hollywood, I would be in Palermo to pay homage to the hero number one. Perhaps John did not want to be called a hero, but it's the only word that comes to define it: in the dictionary there are no words to describe it. Immense. Maybe it's the only adjective that comes close to his figure. Immense because it is the immense work he has done in his life, immense because it was his immense courage and immense because it was his immense love for others, great for all that has been immense. Immense ...

If someone asked me where I was and what I was doing May 23, 1992, to be honest I could not answer because I was not born yet. I was coming to the world only fourteen months and sixteen days after the death of Judge Falcone. I've never seen live on television, I never heard his voice live, but today it is as if I knew him from a life and I learned to appreciate all the work he did with his colleagues and individually. I believe that you can not really describe what this man for me, the way his story has changed my life positively, I now desire to cooperate with the justice system to combat the mafia, is indescribable, but I think it can be read in my eyes and all those people who, like me, believe deeply in what was Giovanni Falcone and he did.
Today, sixteen years after his death, I can only say that I am sure never to forget everything that these people have done for our freedom. I will never forget their smiles, their faces, even though I have only seen on documentaries or yellowed photos stored. Nothing, no factor in human (or animal) will never stop my belief and my ideas, nothing will prevent me to follow my path ...
I want to be a magistrate. And that I owe it to John.

Thank you because you gave a meaning to my life!

Biography of Judge Giovanni Falcone

Giovanni Falcone was born in Palermo, in a Castrofilippo, May 20, 1939. His sister, Maria, said that the first time he saw his brother after he was born, when he was still in the arms of her mother, as they usually do not cry babies, but he had clenched fists and, shortly after his birth, a white dove into the room through the open window. John's father was named Arthur and was the director of the Provincial Chemical Laboratory, and the mother was named Luisa Bentivegna and she was very demanding, but he wanted so good to his children, he often preached on the duty and sacrifice, he invited the children to be always good, to believe in faith and sacrifice for the good.

After attending the Liceo Classico "Umberto", Giovanni Falcone decided to do a brief stint at the Naval Academy, but after a few months he returned to Palermo for a degree in Law in 1961. His first assignment was not in Palermo but Lentini, as magistrate. After a year he was transferred to Trapani, where he remained for twelve years and where, for the first time, risked his life: he was in prison in Favignana, when a detainee asked to speak with him and suddenly it froze, pointing a knife under his chin. The man was nervous and asked to be transferred with his sister and to be able to read a message on the radio. After these requests, he continued to make more, until he decided to surrender and hand over the knife. All the while, John was left cold and quiet, despite the threats and the progressive nervousness of the prisoner. In 1979 he began working

On 29 July 1983 the Council Chinnici was killed with his bodyguard, in Federico Pipitone, Anthony Caponnetto replaced him, who went on the attempt to ensure investigators the most favorable conditions in the investigation of Mafia crimes. It was founded as the "anti-mafia pool", a team of judges ready to fight organized crime, which was formed not only by the same Falcone, by the judges and Lello Guarnotta and Paolo Borsellino.

In 1984, he began the interrogation with the repentant Tommaso Buscetta, Don Masino and questioning, which marked a turning point in the investigation into the criminal organization known as Cosa Nostra.

summer 85 were killed two police officers, Ninni Cassara Joseph and Montana, who were close associates of Falcone and Borsellino. It was from this summer that he began to fear for the safety of the two judges who were sent to prison for some time Asinara where the work was completed for the maxi trial of 86-87. On December 16, 1987, in fact, at 19:30, after thirty-five days of deliberation, three hundred forty-nine hearings milletrecentoquattordici interviews, speeches six hundred thirty-five defensive quattromilaseicentosettantasei years in prison and twenty-eight life sentences requested by the prosecutor, the court returned to the classroom after have brought to its knees for the first time the Sicilian Mafia.

In January of that year, however, the Council Higher Judicial preferred to appoint a head of education, instead of Caponnetto that he wanted to leave his post, Councillor Anthony Meli, rather than Judge Falcone. Meli proved incompetent in some situations and in the autumn of 1988 dissolved the pool. Consequently Falcone asked to be assigned to another office, while the judges resigned in protest and Conte Di Lello. This did not prevent John to continue to work hard consistently, in fact, always in 88, completed a major study, in collaboration with Rudolph Giuliani, District Attorney of New York, which fell significantly Inzerillo and Gambino families, involved in heroin trafficking.
On June 20, 1989, the mob tried to kill John, a bomb in a house near Mondello, where he had gone for a few moments of tranquility. Dell'Addura The attack, however, was foiled, but the threats continued with the arrival of anonymous letters that were intended to threaten the judge angrily.

A week after the attack on the High Council decided to appoint a prosecutor Falcone Deputy Public Prosecutor in Palermo. In January '90 he coordinated an investigation that led to the arrest of fourteen Colombian traffickers and Sicilian investigation which had taken the boot from the confessions of the "repentant" Joe Cuffaro 'which revealed that the steamer Big John, the Chilean flag, was unloaded in January '88, 596 kilos of cocaine off the coast of Castellammare del Golfo.

Then it will head to Rome at the Ministry of Grace and Justice. From there it would be easier to pass laws that would then allowed to magistrates and police to take action more easily against the Mafia. In Rome, John lives in a climate almost surreal: while Palermo was forced to stay home for most of the time, always run with the stock for small business, there was more freedom and, in some cases was also less of the machines with the siren and agents. The enemy However, the Mafia, not lost an eye.

Saturday, May 23, 1992, Giovanni Falcone in Sicily went to the slaughter of Favignana, unaware of what was to happen. Toto Riina, the boss of the Cosa Nostra, the boss of bosses, in fact, had prepared the ' Attentatuni, or the terrible attack which led to the death of the judge, his wife and three officers of the escort.

That day he stopped in front of the box that indicates the town of Capaci, the heart of the person most capable of this Earth! John was a very skilled and knowledgeable judge, but also a generous man and so good, who gave up the little pleasures of life, walking on the beach, out with friends and colleagues, to movie nights or restaurant, swim in the sea which he loved, to defeat a common enemy, a monster that is the mafia and that threat remains, not only Sicily, but throughout the country. Giovanni Falcone risked his life for a Sicily free from threats and bullying, for the good of all citizens and to ensure that one day in Sicily, but also the rest of Italy, you can finally feel free.

After the Capaci massacre, on July 19 of that year,
was also murdered the judge Paolo Borsellino

I'm not Sicilian, but I would be honored to be, because it is true that the Mafia comes from there, but it is also true that all the Sicilian people who have had the courage and strength to fight it.

I'm glad that this country has known and admired the work and the honor of these men and I am proud to be Italian and the man who was born with clenched fists as a fighter, a man who was so fond of Zorro and the heroes, the man which, thanks to his work, made me understand many things, so brave man who knew how to win!
